Artist statement
My depiction of a scene or feeling is done through exploration of the mark making and energy of the paint and its surface. Though the painted scene is a vehicle for the expression of the paint; it is that expression which impresses the scene in a dramatic and balanced nature with the paint. This balance is what fascinates me and inspires my work to push forward. At the present time my work is focused on landscapes in atmosphere or in stages of a storm executed with layered colored strokes of paint showing through each other. It is these areas that deeply connect me to the paintings.
I am continually inspired by the beauty of nature; whether on a trip to the mountains or just driving home during a storm. I enjoy bringing the impression of my experiences home to paint.
